I joined the Office of Information Technology Services (OITS) in October 2025. OITS is an Executive Branch Department that provides information technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data governance services and policies to other Executive Branch Agencies and Non Cabinet Agencies. In this role, I provide legal guidance, coordination and assistance with policy development on State-Wide matters related to IT, cybersecurity, AI, and data governance. I am responsible for managing the privacy office and legal affairs of OITS. Legal affairs responsibilities include counsel on human resources matters, contract review and negotiation, procurement compliance, and regulatory compliance.
Immediately before coming to OITS, I worked as an Assistant District Attorney for the Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office and as a Research Attorney for the Johnson County District Court's Civil Division. Before working for Wyandotte and Johnson County, for approximately ten years I also worked as a Lead Capital Defense Attorney for the State Board of Indigents Defense Services (SBIDS). As Lead Capital Defense Attorney I directed the defense for multiple clients accused of capital murder in District Courts throughout the State of Kansas. Through years of complex coordinated litigation, none of the clients I represented were sentenced to death. Prior to my work as a Lead Capital Defense Attorney I worked as Public Defender for the Northeast Kansas Conflicts Office.
I also served as an Adjunct Professor at Washburn School of Law, where I co-taught capital punishment, for many semesters.
In 2010 I graduated Washburn Law School. In 2007 I graduated from UMKC's Bloch School with the degree of Master of Public Administration, and in 2005 I graduated from UMKC with the degree of Bachelor of Arts - Philosophy.
